Toys for Tots

Once again our own Lisa Tate has organized the Toys for Tots drive and she's asking for your help. Next time you're in the clubhouse be sure to bring a toy and drop it in the barrel outside the pro shop. Don't have a toy and you're unwilling to brave Toys R Us this time of year? No problem, Lisa has also put out a jar for cash donations. Either way, you'll be making sure some little boy or girl's Christmas is a whole lot brighter this year.

This is the 5th year that Lisa has coordinated Seascape gift giving with the Toys for Tots folks. The toys go to local orphanages, foster homes, churches and needy families in the area. And with your generosity last year, we donated over $800 in toys to children all around Santa Cruz.

So bring a new toy in, make sure it's not wrapped and Lisa asks that we steer clear of guns and other fighting toys.

Thank you for your generous support and Happy Holidays to everyone!

Club Championship Begins

During the month of September the Men's Club will hold weekly match play competitions in a single elimination tournament. This year we have five flights plus a Director's flight competing for the championship. You can follow along at Seascape where the brackets will be posted and updated weekly as well as right here under the Club Championship link.
Attn. Players: Make sure the winner of your match enters the match results in your bracket after the match is completed. The Tournament Committee relies on each match winner to record their win at the club so they can track results and schedule subsequent rounds.

Teamplay Season Results **Final**

This has been our best season of Teamplay in quite a few years. We finished with a record of three wins, one loss, and two ties. Our two matches against Pajaro were both ties. We are in first place and will go to the playoffs unless Pajaro wins its last match with over 25 points. We have 119 total points and Pajaro 93.

Thank you to all the participants in Teamplay this year. You can be proud of your accomplishments.

[update]
... And though we had a great season, Pajaro took Blackhorse to task at Pajaro's home course. They won the match 28-8 and that was enough to win the tiebreaker against ASMC. Both teams played very well in compiling 3 wins, 1 loss, and 2 ties (against each other.) We certainly wish them good luck in the playoffs.

--David Webb, Team Captain

Teamplay Starts Strong

Our team has played its first four matches: we won at Blackhorse; we tied at home against Pajaro; we lost at Boulder Ridge (22-14); and, we defeated Boulder Ridge at Seascape (25-11). So far, we are leading our group in the competition for the playoffs. We have a match at home against Blackhorse next week and a match at Pajaro on the 28th. As we defeated Boulder Ridge by more points than they took from us we would win in the event of a tie in our group.

The Spring Medal

The Spring Medal Championship is one of the most demanding tournaments of the year. Players compete over 36 holes of stroke play in this 2-week event to claim victory. While the field is flighted, the champion can come from any flight to win the top prize. The greens were fast this week and it took a steady putter to get the job done. This year Ray Geisick earned top honors turning in a 2-round net 136. Well done Ray! Other scores of note include Jay Karafa 140, Jim Geesman and Jeff Stanga each finishing with a net 141 and Gary Lovell came in with a 146.

The Blind Draw Shamble ABCs

A is for ASMC,
B is for Bright & Sunny,
C is for Competition,
D is for Deeeeeep rough!

Well it will officially be Spring this week and that means two things. Stay in the fairway because the rough is deep and shaggy and... it's time for the A•B•C•D Blind Draw Shamble. And while we're at it, maybe you're wondering what a shamble is. According to Google, a shamble is to move with a slow, shuffling, awkward gait. And appropriately enough play was soggy and slow this week. Fortunately the sun was shining and us golfers were golfing. Even though the greens were aerated just two weeks prior, they had healed enough to get a reasonable roll in spite of or maybe because of the gentle waffle pattern blanketing them.

But with all the challenges presented to our members, some outstanding scores were posted. Let's congratulate the winning team of Brad Ryno, Danny Braga, Jeff Stanga and Russ Nicholson who turned in a net 109. Well done gentlemen!
