Playing Partner Required in 2016

Starting in January, the USGA will no longer accept scores for handicap when playing alone. An important aspect of handicapping is peer review to insure the fair and equal assessment of all players for the purpose of competition.

USGA November 23, 2015 | Far Hills, N.J.
Playing alone and necessary peer review: To further support the key System premise of peer review, scores made while playing alone will no longer be acceptable for handicap purposes. This change underscores the importance of providing full and accurate information regarding a player’s potential scoring ability, and the ability of other players to form a reasonable basis for supporting or disputing a posted score.

Roderick Biswell, 1937 to 2015

Rick Biswell

Dear ASMC Friends,

It is with great sadness that I am letting you know that Naina's husband, Rick Biswell, passed away yesterday. Naina wanted to let everyone know how much she has appreciated all of your wonderful thoughts and support during this most difficult time. She also said that she will probably need to take a couple of weeks for herself and her family before resuming activities with the club.
- Gail Height and Gary Lovell

Rick's obituary follows. Naina requested "no flowers, please."

Roderick Biswell, MD. Ophthalmology, 1937 to 2015
Thank you to my family, friends, and patients. You have been very supportive. Thank you to my patients for letting me into your lives.

Thank you Naina, Russell, Gretchen, Richard, and Erin for giving me a wonderful life.

Cha-Cha-Cha: Stephens, Holderbein, Webb & Noce Can Dance!

The Cha-Cha-Cha is one our annual 4-man events. Best net score on the 1st hole, 2 best on the 2nd, 3 best on the 3rd, repeat. Simple. And a lot of fun. A look at the winning scores shows the competition was tough this year. And so was the course! Many agreed their were several challenging pin positions to test our putting prowess. And through it all, the team of Travis Stephens, Phil Holderbein, Dave Webb and John Noce rose to victory with a 21 under par 119! Congratulations gentlemen.

ASMC Traveling Team Wraps up the Season on a High Note

The ASMC team ended its season on a high note by beating Poplar Creek, 25-9. Palo Alto, by winning four matches, won the group and moves on to the playoffs. We finished tied with Poplar Creek with three wins, but we beat them 25-9, while they beat us 25-11, so we finished in second place. Crystal Springs, with two wins, finished last.

Next year, I hope we are matched against teams on this side of the hill to cut down on the long commutes. Another problem encountered this year was players committing to play and then being unavailable just prior to the match. Family responsibilities, medical problems, and unanticipated travel all contributed to us having only eight players at Poplar Creek and only eleven on August 13th at Seascape.

David Webb. Team Captain
