Former ASMC Leader Bob Freeman Killed in Car Accident

Robert M. Freeman, 70, of Los Gatos, a former board member of ASMC and captain of the interclub team, died Sunday shortly after a 5:15 p.m. crash at the intersection of Almaden Expressway and McAbee Road in San Jose.

San Jose police said Freeman's white BMW collided with a white GMC Sierra pickup truck traveling south on Almaden Expressway.

Freeman's front seat passenger, believed by police to be his 67-year-old wife, was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A 10-year-old girl in the car was treated and released at the scene.

San Jose police Officer Jose Garcia said driver of the pickup was not arrested or injured. And police say they do not suspect drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.

Hole-In-One For Craig Matthews

Seascape and ASMC Board social chairman, Craig Matthews carded his second career ace yesterday on the 118 yard par-3 8th hole. He used a 9-iron to attack the red pin on the lower level. It took one hop and went right in, to the delight of his playing partners Barry Baker and Jorgen Hagglof. Craig's first H-I-O came a few years ago at Eagle Ridge.

Great Things Can Happen 60 Years Later!

Congratulations go out to long time Seascape & ASMC member Charlie May, who can be found three days a week on the course in his "classic" Tin Lizzy black Model T golf cart. He carded his first ever hole-in-one today, since taking up the game some 60 years ago. That magic moment came at the 118 yard, Par 3-12th hole. Charlie used his new 5-wood! Rumor has it he got in to his playing partners wallets, a little better than on most days! For those of you out there that have yet to get that H-I-O, let Charlie be a lesson that good things do come, if you don't give up!

No Slow Play Here

L-SGC from above
R- Free falling at 120mph

Well, since its a slow news day...and not much is getting posted on our blog anyway...what the heck. We've all heard the sounds and screams from above on the golf course. Well, this cub reporter on Sunday, 10-10-10, wanted to find out first hand...and what a F&#%ing rush!! SDSC Owner Volker Haag, who took me by the seat of my pants and the staff at SkyDiveSurfCity based out of Watsonville Airport were the best. How great is that to land right on the beach in our own back yard. Seascape Golf Course is a backup landing spot if ever necessary, so if you see them coming, please allow them to "play through". If any of you ever get the opportunity and want to take that "total" leap of faith, try jumping out of a perfectly good airplane over Seascape Golf Club at 12k feet. How lucky are we to live in such a beautiful place?...Scott Humphreys!

"THANK YOU" Summer Social Players & Guests

Just a note to thank the staff at Seascape, volunteers, our members and guests who made our 1st Annual Summer Golf & Social a big success. The day started off with the “Great American 2- Hole Putting Contest”. With a big & loud gallery looking on…it was an all ladies top finish. First place went to Robin Gaither who was the only one in the field to find the hole. Her 5-points gave her top honors, with Sharon Layne, Ginger Ramsey and Vickie Oliver tying for 2nd place with 3-points. On the golf side of things in the 9-hole Chapman-Scotch alternating shot format, the team of Bruce McCombs and Suzie Duarte beat out Scott Humphreys and new ASMC member Marten Touw in a card off, for a net score of 30. Afterwards, everyone enjoyed cocktails and dinner along with their favorite tunes of yester year, meeting and mingling with the old and new faces around the club. The feedback was great and we look forward to planning our next event.

The Women's 18 Hole group and the Seagals did a great job getting support for this tournament. It was really fun seeing so many from all three organizations mingling and laughing about their golf stories. We may offer marriage counseling for a few.

We welcome your suggestions for future events as, at the end of the day, this is “Our” club and thanks again to those of you who came out to support this fun event! TELL A FRIEND!

Sincerely we remain,
Craig “MC-M” Matthews & Scott “DJ Homefries” Humphreys
