Russ Nicholson prevails in 2015 Spring Medal Championship

The Spring Medal Play Championship is one of the most demanding tournaments of the year. Players compete over 36 holes of stroke play in this 2-week event to claim victory. While the field is flighted, the champion can come from any flight to win the top prize. This year Russ Nicholson earned top honors turning in a 2-round net 137. That's 14 strokes under par. Well done Russ! Other scores of note include Pete Pappas 138, Jay Karafa 139 and Jim Baker 140. Also, congratulations to Bob Kaswen who netted a stunning 60 in the first round.

ASMC 2015 Blind Draw Team Event

The ASMC Blind Draw event divides all the players into 4 groups based on handicap. Each team is made up of one player from each group, randomly selected. All players on the team drive off each tee, the best drive is selected, and all 4 players play in from the selected drive. The team must use at least 3 drives from each member of the foursome. The 2 lowest net scores are  recorded on each hole. The round is dynamic and everyone contributes.

This year's event produced outstanding results with the top 8 teams all within 5 strokes of each other. Congratulations to the winning team: Teddy Kosciolek, Gerry Catalano, Bill Daitchman and Richard Lakely who turned in a blistering 111. Three teams tied with 113 and positions 2 thru 4 were awarded based on their back 9 totals. 2nd place went to Bobby Sayous, Matt Kluger, Gary Lovell and Dennis Dalman. Bruce Driggs, Don Urfer, Williamd Duquette and  Jay O'Gorman took 3rd place and 4th went to John Watson, Danny Braga, Craig Matthews and Glenn Taylor. Prizes went to the top 8 positions.

4-Ball winners go low with a pair of Aces

4-ball two-somes turned up the heat on Wednesday with second round scores dropping as much as 12 strokes off the previous week's efforts. Bobby Sayous & Derek Nagamine won the 1st flight competition with a net 55, while Bill Campbell & Bob McCormick carded the tournament low net score of 52 to win the 2nd flight. Peter Porfido & Michael Blaz won the 3rd flight with a 55 as did Don Schwartz & Denny Dalman who also finished the 4-ball competition with 55.

Most improved nods go to Campbell & McCormick who dropped 12 strokes in round 2. Barry Baker & Bob Twaddle dropped 11 strokes and Glenn Taylor & Bob Martinelli shaved 10 strokes off their first round score.

Folks on the driving range heard the uproar early last Wednesday when Bobby Sayous laced an ace on the 8th hole in the first round of the 4-ball tournament. Then later in the day Matt Ryan stepped up to the tee and proceeded to play number 8 to perfection with an ace of his own. Congratulations gentlemen!

"Toys for Tots" Once Again Happening at Seascape

Once again, "Toys for Tots" is under way at Seascape, a project that ASMC and the Ladies' Club have consistently supported over the years.

To participate, there are two ways -- up until December 16.

-- Bring an unwrapped toy and place it in the receptacle just outside the pro shop.  Toys for any aged child will be appreciated but please don't contribute toys of an aggressive nature -- guns, knives, etc.

OR

-- Lesa Tate, our Christmas Angel behind the counter at Bogie's, has a special "Toys for Tots" tip jar. Lesa accumulates these donations and shops for discount and special-price toys, getting really good deals, which she then places in the toy receptacles. This makes donations go even further!

Be sure to thank Lesa for her hard, volunteer work.
